Avoiding car accidents in Florida

No one likes having car accidents, no matter how well are insured they are, and even a minor incident can still be a traumatic, inconvenient and sometimes expensive event.  While it’s good to be well covered with Florida car insurance, it’s even more important to take measures to avoid accidents in the first place.  Accidents can often be avoided, by following a few basic ‘rules’ when driving, and keeping your car in good condition. Tips include:
-    Avoiding distractions, such as cell-phone use.  According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) using a cell-phone while driving can increase the risk of crash fourfold.
-    Don’t rush to get through intersections, but enter them cautiously.  Red-light running has been shown to increase the rate of crashes.
-    Don’t follow too closely behind the vehicle in front as you’ll have little time to avoid a collision if that driver brakes suddenly.
-    When changing lanes, make sure to thoroughly check your mirrors and make sure there is no vehicle in your ‘blind spot’.
-    Stick to the speed limit, not only to avoid penalties but for safety.  Speeding is considered to be a factor in about one third of fatal crashes in the US.
-    Maintain your vehicle, and make sure that your tires and brakes are always in good working order.
By following some good tips and applying common sense, it is possible to minimize road risk, and of course a good driving record could result in lower Florida insurance premiums in the future.
